Child From the Sea, is an adaptation of an Inupiat legend about the child who is half-human and half-seal. "The child is invited to grow and learn with her mother," said Wilma Brown who plays the child. "At the end, the child reaches mature stage and departs from the mother to begin a great journey."
Tom Riccio heard several versions of the story from conversations he had with elders and read other versions in books of Native stories. Riccio who is credited with last year’s sell-out show titled “Qayaq: The Magical Man,” said he chose “The Child from the Sea” because it was “most pertinent and theatrically accessible.”
