Tricks has a sexual motif, but transcends this with a larger theme: appearance vs. reality. It is difficult to distinguish between the two for the protagonist and just as ambiguous for the audience.
And then he dances his love onstage--only Marie is a life-size inflated doll. The laughs come fast and furious as he continues begging for love, all the more grotesque as he holds one of her pink hands, sans digits. Marie intersperses a few endearments along with her tirade concluding with accusing Jack of being a pervert and molester. To make matters worse, she is pregnant!.
Tom Riccio proves he is a playwright to keep an eye on.
